With the passion and energy typical of young people the project One Hundred Itineraries Plus One, promoted by the Ente Cassa di Risparmio of Florence in collaboration with the schools, local authorities and the Regione Toscana, reaches out to those who care about their territory and are willing to learn about new ones. Aimed at the students from the Casentino schools and its young inhabitants, the initiative gives shape, following a mutually enriching exchange, to an exhibition in the Castle of the Guidi Counts in Poppi which has as its unifying theme the wealth of art, culture and tradition of the Casentino, interesting for any kind of visitor. Through diversified languages and tools (short films, interviews, real-life stories, explanatory panels) young people undertook the creation of a personal view of their territory centred on its rediscovery and on the many cultural resources found there. You will be surprised to see places you know which will appear new and unusual from the different perspective used to look at them. For those who do not or only partly know the Casentino, it is a unique occasion to understand its essence and enjoy its beauty with a series of pleasant and interesting initiatives (bus tours, free guided visits, publications, etc.) as well as to visit the Castle of the Guidi Counts, a stately medieval fortress with one of the most beautiful views of the Casentino.

THE VENUE | Castle of the Guidi Counts in Poppi

The Castle of the Guidi Counts is the most emblematic monument of the Casentino. It dates back to 1191. The building was renovated starting in 1274 by Count Simone Guidi and his son Guido. The imposing and fortified castle rises before the plain where, on 11 June 1289, the Battle of Campaldino between the Florentine Guelphs, with Dante Alighieri among them, and the Ghibellines from
Arezzo took place.
The origins of the building is uncertain, with the oldest part attributed to Lapo di Cambio, while the most recent one, dating to the end of the 13th century, might be by di Arnolfo di Cambio.
